Improvements to Daily Notes#135

R

When clicking on the Daily note card button it should create a card first time on any given day and then if I click again it should go to the same card again and place the cursor at the last line with a Time stamp. ie for any given date there should only ever be a single daily card unless user explicity creates another manually.
Doing this helps prevent a proliferation of daily cards (which is the current action)

I also wonder whether daily cards could potentially cause some clutter, but I do in principle generally like working from daily notes as it means every though has a ‘home place’ which also provides some temporal context

I want to add: When I click the Daily Note, it would be great to have it full size immediately. This way I can focus only on that without distractions.

Plus: Upvote for that idea in general.

The dropdown card finder in the archive is split nicely by date. It would be nice if you click on an actual date (and not a card belonging to that date) that it added the daily note to the desk for that day, and if a daily note for that day didn’t exist it automatically created one and added to the page.

Comment from the community:

I WOULD LIKE THE DAILY CARDS TO BE CONNECTED TO MY CALENDAR.. Right now, they don’t serve to keep a diary or agenda of anything. I’ve missed this capability a lot and I keep on using LOGSEQ to be able to have my notes diary. If Scrintal could create an agenda-type of diary (on the right side for example), it would eliminate the use of LOGSEQ.

I would also like the Daily Cards to be connected to calendars, and the abiltiy to add more than one-calendar. I use multiple email addresses for different sub-contracting jobs, and each with a calendar. A means to link and/or overlay all the calendars for one visual board would be my dream come true!

I like the idea of linking with a calendar but not the whole card. I think perhaps a new command (forward slash appt) for example that if entered onto a daily card would then populate into a calendar.

I think you do need to keep the flexibility of not using daily cards in that way though which is why I suggest an appointment type entry that can be just placed on daily cards.

That way for people like myself who like to track activities on the daily cards via linking to other cards on a daily board we create that functionality is preserved.

Replicate the table card type adding a calendar card- output 7 columns by 5 rows. User would populate the card titles with days of the month.

In Notion you can see the cards in a calendar view, I think it is very important to be able to do so in Scrintal as well.

I think this would be great! I also think it would be helpful to be able to add a date to a (any) card within the card itself and then that would be reflected in the calendar as well. This would show up on the calendar either with a description of the block it is on or by the card (or both by showing back links).

A calendar view for browsing (in the Browse section) would make sense, as well as a widget/date-picker in the /shlash-menu to be able to link “events” to future and past dates. (also see #341)

  • Actually I think that each day sh/could be a card in the end (“as in Roam”)

This seems to be a catch-all for Daily Notes requests. So here goes mine:

I miss the ability to make a chain between daily notes as most applications have it. I would like to go to the previous daily note or next without having to manually create links between them.

Daily notes are excellent for self-monitoring, scratch pad, journalling, and other temporally relevant info. So, if Scrintal is to support daily notes then it may be good to have a bit more structure to it (as in a timeline of notes).

Just another thought, Calendar related notes and Daily notes may not necessarily be the same thing.

I may want to have a daily note and a meeting note all associated to the same date in the Calendar, but I may not necessarily want them to be in the same card (in particular if we want to share a meeting card with a team, but have the Daily note private).
