More Visual Elements on Boards/Desk#81

V

Every whiteboard and map is a space that – eventually – needs ‘regions’ of some sort.
Scrintal is already great for visual structuring via notes. And it is also great to have the option to set up the semblance of board sections / regions via the option to have text (headings) directly on the board.

… but sometimes you want / need: lines, rectangles (maybe in different colors) etc. to just get into some heuristic structuring of your note-set, or use some of the methodologies around (think of all the whiteboard templates around basically laying the ground to implement method x (there are hundreds by now) by some graphical segmented / templated space.

Scrintal is the best Whiteboard (and mapping tool) around for processual and visual sorting. It should allow for visually structured boards to make the most of it and give it depth / stringency etc, and allow the board to take on different meanings / base logics.

so it seems that as boards are in effect infinite that such areas would need to be user deposited scaleable templates pinned to the boards that the cards are then positioned over .. would need to manage what happens with auto-layout function as would likely shift cards out of intended areas (?)

one other thought on this (probably a step too far as goes against keeping things simple)… scenarios pop into my mind if a board represents a larger ‘project’. I might want on-board a kanban area, literature note area, fleeting note area etc … it ocurrs to me that if this were the case if the pinnable areas had titles and associated tags then all cards on the area could inherit the area-tags (add to any pre-existing card tags) and therefore be quickly identified by future tag searches .. e.g. find all lit. notes, find all project progress cards (kanban) etc .. ?
The downside of this is that it may to some extent disconnect deliberate thinking about what tags a card should have if assuming that the areas are doing some of the tagging work..
Like i say .. maybe a step too far and maybe not really necessary.

@Rayon.idyll.0e : I appreciate the deep thinking – even that ‘far ahead’, as it talks about the horizons that could influence any implementation.
I have to say, the point on the problem of auto-layout function scenarios is well made; even though I still think a graphic markup of the board (spatial card environment) is still very much needed and beneficial…. so: hmmm.

I’d be happy even if all we had was a simple “frame” concept (like in Miro). In Scrintal, it could be as simple as the frame that surrounds the columns, minus the columns. If we were able to drag cards into it, arrange in freeform in that frame, and resize the frame to suit, that would help loads
